In 1969, the late H.A. Douglas felt the call of God to start a church in Milan,Tn. He began meeting with about forty people in a little store front as the church building on Nance St. was under construction. In April, 1970, the new church was ready for the " Bethel General Baptist " congregation. Brother Douglas pastored until his health began to fail. The late G.A. Welch took the position of pastor at that time. As the people of the church were prayerfully & earnestly seeking God, true revival broke out !! Many were filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. As the Spirit of God moved, the crowd outgrew the church which was then sold to the Church of God.
In 1977, Pastor Welch & board members made the decision to purchase the building that had previously been used as the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The Holy Ghost filled believers excitedly marched from the Nance St. church to their new location on Main St. They called this their "Victory March", which we still celebrate yearly in August. At that time, the church was renamed Tabernacle of the Living God. The church has since been renovated & continues to be a spirit filled place of worship.
Bro. Welch resigned his position as pastor in June,1980. James Groves, "Bro. Buster", was elected pastor in Aug. 1980. For almost 23 years, he has faithfully & prayerfully led the congregation. You are cordially invited to attend services with us as we follow the old paths set forth in the Word of God.
