As I am getting older and approaching my "golden years", it seems my memory of yesteryear is sharping while I forget what happen yesterday. I can remember as a child going to Sunday School. We memorized the 23 Psalms, 100 Psalms, the books of the Bible, 10 plaques, and the ten commandments. The first commandment is "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" Exodus 20:3. Secondly, " Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image," but it is the third commandment that I want to talk about. "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain". I always thought that this meant speaking the name of God with a curse word. When I was backslid on God I was careful not to do this, but noticed what the scripture says,"Not to take his name in vain". It does not say not to speak, call, or say his name in vain. You may ask, "so how do we take his name in vain," well let me explain: when a man takes a woman for his bride she takes his name and no longer uses hers but his. As time passes if she becomes unfaithful and brings a shame or reproach in some way, she has taken his name in vain. She has not only caused damage to her name but his also. It works the same way in the "Bride of Christ". When we become born again Christians, washed in the blood, a new creature in Christ Jesus, we become a virgin bride. Jesus Christ is the groom. We take on his name. We are called Christians, meaning "Christ Like". We are to be witnesses, uplift his name, and live in a godly way not to bring shame or reproach to his name. We are always to be faithful and never commit spiritual adultery. There will be times when we will be in trapped by Satan. The word of God tells us we have and advocate with the father if we sin. 1 John 2:1 & Hebrews 10:26 tells us, " if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of he truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins." We do not premediate sins and a christian DOES NOT SIN EVERYDAY. You may say what about an evil thought. An evil thought is a temptation until we dwell on it and it gets from our head to our heart. It's up to us to rebuke it. There is an old saying,"you can't keep a bird from flying over your head but you can keep him from building a nest in your hair." Let us strive to be a glorious bride without spot or wrinkle and never bring a reproach or shame to our precious Saviors name.
